Full of sparkle and heart
By Ananda
I was really looking forward to reading this book for many reasons. First off, my twitter feed throughout November was full of great comments about it, secondly, the sparkly reviews from my friends/chick lit bloggers whose judgments I absolutely trust.
With Christmas being just around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to read this Christmassy read and boy oh boy did I have high expectations.

But you know what? Not only was I not disappointed in Alexandra's writing but this book actually exceeded all my expectations. 'Christmas at Carrington's' is the sequel to 'Cupcakes at Carrington's' but it can be easily read as a stand alone too. We get together with Georgie, Sam and Eddie again and see what lies in store for them (no pun intended).

Carrington's is a family firm spanning 3 generations and a store everyone in Mullberry-On-Sea feel connected to. The customers are treated with respect and addressed by name and the staff is like one big happy family.
Well, at least it was before Kelly Cooper and her cameras enter the picture. The idea of setting a reality show in a department store is really brilliant, I personally find it very unique. It does give the story a whole new dimension. Literally over night, Georgie who's running the Women's Accessories section in Carrington's becomes a celebrity and a national TV star. Of course, at first she doesn't enjoy being so exposed and loudly objects the idea of turning a well respected and traditional store into a TV circus, but soon she's starts to get into this whole glamorous life. She even gets to write a fashion column, something she always wanted to do. But fame has a price, right? Georgie is really a wonderful character, and despite being thrown in many awkward situations, she is pretty down-to-earth and positive person. Everyone would love to have her as a BFF, she's nice, kind, caring and full of understanding. I cheered for her, I laughed with her, I sympathized with her, she's definitely a memorable character everyone would love.

I loved the romance elements which fitted the story perfectly. Tom Carrington is gorgeous, smart, sexy..simply breath taking. BUT what I enjoyed the most was the friendship between Georgie and Sam. I could feel they deeply care for each other and support each other no matter what. This is not a sad book, it's actually very fun and uplifting, but there's few scenes in the book where I literally cried like a baby, I was that emotionally invested. I totally DIDN'T expect to cry, but it was stronger than me really. These scenes are pretty powerful and well written (and address a more serious topic), and give the book a deeper dimension. I'm sure many women out there will understand what I say, once they read this book.

Overall, this is definitely a great and enjoyable book. It will get you in a festive mood super speedy, make you laugh and deeply care about these fantastic characters, and flip through pages to see what will happen to Georgie and if she's gonna get her HEA. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am certainly looking forward to part 3, which I heard will be released in June 2014. Full of sparkle and heart, this is a must read for all chick lit and romance fans.

A Magical Christmas!
By Jamieson Wolf
Georgie Hart loves Christmas. It’s especially lovely at Carrington’s department store. She adores helping customers find the perfect present and there’s just something so magical about being surrounded by beautiful decorations that really make the department store sparkle.

This year is even more exceptional as Georgie has a man in her life, the hunky and adorable Tom Carrington. She’s over the moon to be with Tom at Christmas and hopes to finally be able to tell him she loves him…or is it too soon?

However, things do not go according to plan. She turns on the television one evening to see her bottom shaking to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”. Mortified beyond belief, she is shocked to learn that Carrington’s will be home to a new reality show, Kelly Cooper Come In Store.

Shock turns to mortification when she learns that Tom knew all about it and never told her! Georgie fears that instead of being magical, this will be her worst Christmas ever!

What Georgie doesn’t count on, however, is that Christmas is full of magic and a little bit of it might just come her way…
I flat out adore Alexandra Brown’s Carrington’s series. The books go beyond the genre of chick lit and make it something more, something deeper. Laugh out loud funny and told with tons of heart, Christmas at Carrington’s is no exception.

Eddie, Sam and the whole Carrington’s gang is back for me. It’s a thrill to see them all again. One of Alexandra Brown’s strength lies in the characters she creates. Georgie is flat out the best heroine I’ve read in ages. Brown doesn’t just write characters, she creates them. You feel as if you know them, even after a few pages.

What’s great about Christmas at Carrington’s is that the book doesn’t go anywhere you think it will. The reality show (or as Eddie calls is Dramality) adds a whole new dimension to the book. Georgie is shocked to learn that a lot of the reality tv shows she loves are actually staged and there is the real reality and the one portrayed on the show.

I also loved the development in character between Georgie and her father. It was heart breaking but beautiful and tender hearted and it speaks again to Alexandra Brown’s strength that in one book, she was able to make me laugh out loud and tear up. There is such a range of emotions in Christmas at Carrington’s and it takes a very skilled author to perfect that balance.

I’ve already read the book twice and will read it for a third time over the Christmas Holidays. What makes Christmas at Carrington’s (and all of her books) so wonderful is that these are people you care about, people you root for and some that you love to hate. She’s able to pull you right into the story from page one and you won’t want to stop reading, anticipating the ending but dreading it at the same time because you never want the book to end.

Christmas at Carrington’s is a fantastic, wonderful, magical read. I for one, can’t wait to read it again. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to an early Christmas present. One that you’ll want to read again and again.

Will Georgie get a happily ever after for Christmas? You’ll just have to read it yourself and find out!

Sweet and heartfelt - even better than the first!
By Z. de Ruiter
Christmas at Carrington's is a continuation of Alexandra Brown's excellent first novel Cupcakes at Carrington's, which was released at the start of the year and I thoroughly enjoyed reading. In this sequel Georgie still works in the luxury handbags departments at Carrington's with her beau Mr Tom Carrington himself now out in the open about who he is and her best friend Sam still manning her cafe, so she's close by for when Georgie needs a cheer-up cupcake or simply wants to hear the latest gossip.

Georgie is pretty happy with where things are in her life, until one day she's watching a reality TV show and she sees herself dancing to Beyoncé's Single Ladies in a cringe-worthy way. It turns out that without her knowledge she was filmed on the shop floor because Carrington's is going to be part of a new television series in which the store will get a major make-over, in the hopes of bringing in some much-needed new customers.

It's all pretty fun at first when Georgie and her co-workers get the chance to be on telly and getting rewarded with brand-new wardrobes in the process, so they look presentable both on TV and for the new customers, but with Tom away filming scenes halfway across the world surrounded by beautiful women and the presenter of the show seemingly having it in for Georgie, it all quickly turns into a nightmare. Even worse, she suspects that the show may just be a ruse and the store itself is at risk of being bought up!

I love Georgie. She an incredibly likeable and funny main character and from a reader's point of view you can't help but root for her throughout the novel, even when she's being a bit of a drama queen. And with the addition of her wonderful best friend Sam, the gorgeous Tom (who I am a little bit in love with myself) and the theatrical but ultimately very sweet Eddie as another good friend, they are the heart of the books and an important part of what make the Carrington's stories such a joy to read.

Once again the cover to the novel is incredibly inviting, it emanates the feel of the luxuries products that Georgie sells in Carrington's and the image goes perfectly with that of the first cover, but with added festive flair to it in the form of the red and icy blue pops of colours. However, don't let the gorgeous cover and the depiction of a perfect Christmas deceive you into thinking this is a fun and frothy read with little depth. Of course there are plenty of mentions of gorgeous clothes (and handbags) and there is a love story at the heart of it all, but there is so much more to it than that.

Author Alexandra Brown actually took me by surprise about two-thirds in when something unexpected and absolutely heart-breaking happened to one of my favourite characters. I had a lump in my throat while reading it, but she handled the situation very delicately and this, combined with the Georgia and Tom story, which felt unpredictable this time around, really elevated the novel above many others within its genre.

Where Cupcakes at Carrington's, befitting its titel, was a sweet and addictive introduction to Georgie and the gang, Christmas at Carrington's still funny but also heartfelt story really establishes the series as a strong new addition to the women's fiction genre and I personally cannot wait for more.
