About the Author
When Margaret Park moved from rural North Carolina to downtown Salt Lake City, she needed to come up with new methods of vegetable gardening in her small urban backyard. Over four years, she experimented with tighter seed spacing, vertical growing supports, multiple cropping through the year and composting with EM bokashi to arrive at a highly productive system to grow a lot of food in a small space. Margaret Park is the author of four children's books. She was a 2012 Grow America finalist.

No competition for SFG

Cutting to the chase - please save your money and go elsewhere - there is simply nothing to see here.
I purchased this book with the hopes that it might show something different than other, more well known, space intensive gardening ideas. Other than changing the layout of your plots (to a somewhat, awkward work from the inside set-up) there is nothing here that you don't already know. In fact, there is plenty here that the author doesn't know. Repeatedly readers are pointed towards the internet or the local extension office for clearer, or more specific, or more local knowledge that will help with gardening.
A brief introduction to Bokashi (do an online search, it isn't nearly as revolutionary as the author suggests) or making compost tea (buy compost, soak in water with a sugar source, apply) are simplified to the point of being silly. The only reason we aren't pointed to the internet here is that we can fill at least 4 - 5 pages with images of cleaning buckets and pouring liquid.
The latter half of the book is spent constructing things out of pvc to allow your plants to climb or to build a greenhouse that would blow away in a stiff wind.
This is simply the laziest excuse for a gardening book I've ever seen. If you've ever read anything about gardening you know more than this book will provide. The author is correct about one thing however - go to the internet or the local extension office and they'll help you out.
Now if only I could Bokashi this book...

Very useful for small back yard!

Someone suggest me to buy this book for my backyard. The author is very knowledgeable. There are lots of useful tips for garden building. I already start using Bokashi to do my compose three month ago. Now I plan to use the tips in this book to arrange my back yard to save gardening space. Hope it will bring me lots of vegi for this summer.

This is a good book for novice gardeners looking to produce more in tight spaces. For a gardener with a few years of experience this book will fall short... no great new ideas here.
