Auch wenn alle Fertigkeiten nicht zu vernachlässigen sind und häufig auch nur in Kombination auftreten, ist das Sprechen die bedeutendste Komponente des Fremdsprachenunterrichts und das, wenigstens auf einem guten Niveau, am schwierigsten erreichbare Ziel. Beim realen Sprechen wird der Lernende total auf die Probe gestellt, denn er
muss sowohl verstehen als auch auf das Gehörte reagieren, sinnvolle Sätze bilden, die ihrerseits die Reaktion des Gesprächspartners hervorrufen, und so weiter. Beim wirklichen Sprechen werden alle Fähigkeiten des Lernenden gleichzeitig beansprucht, niemand kann ihm helfen, seine Gedanken da, auf der Stelle, zu organisieren. Somit verlangt die produktive Fertigkeit Sprechen von den Schülern in jeder Stunde des Fremdsprachenunterrichts höchste Konzentration und spielt gerade im Anfangsunterricht eine schwierige Rolle. Mit zunehmendem Leistungsniveau steigt natürlich dann die Sprach- und Sprechfähigkeit, was es den Schülern vereinfacht bestimmte Strategien und Methoden anzuwenden. Natürlich helfen dabei die nonverbalen Elemente, d.h. die Gestik, der Gesichtsausdruck und besonders der Kontext.
Die Arbeit lässt sich in drei Teilen strukturieren. Zuerst soll erklärt werden, wie ein Lernziel für die Fertigkeit Sprechen aussehen kann und wie Lernziele nach dem europäischen Referenzrahmen für die Stufen A1 bis C2 definiert sind. Dann wird kurz auf das Ablaufprinzip
