Als Mitglied der Spezialeinheit der Blade Runner wird er wieder dafür sorgen, von Menschen kaum unterscheidbare Androiden, so genannte Replikanten, die sich illegal auf der Erde aufhalten, aufzuspüren und, in den Ruhestand zu versetzen . Parallel dazu erzählt der Film in einem zweiten Handlungsstrang die Suche der gejagten Kunstmenschen nach einer Möglichkeit, ihre limitierte Lebensdauer zu verlängern.Die Roboter hinterlassen dabei eine ähnlich blutige Spur wie ihr Jäger Deckard, so dass zum Ende hin alles auf die finale Konfrontation des Blade Runners mit dem letzten überlebenden Replikanten hinausläuft.
