About the Author
John Stewart worked in mixed veterinary practice for 15 years before setting up his own predominantly equine practice. He became interested in laminitis due to his own frustration in dealing with the condition, whichs led to his in-depth study of horses' feet. He has spoken at farriery conferences in Europe and the United States and was inducted into the International Equine Veterinarian Hall of Fame of the American Farriers Journal in 2012.

Understanding the hoof

Purchased the book on a recommendation and have not reviewed it in it's entirety yet. Very comprehensive (maybe a bit overly technical medically) certainly worth it if as I am going or already barefoot. Most likely valuable if your horse(s) are in shoes.

A must for all equine owners.

As a owner of breeding and riding horses, I feel it's a must for all owners to understand
the horses foot. As a owner I keep an open mind to learning . My farrier drives several
hours to work on my horses. Why? Because most the farriers around my area
can't answer the how's and why's. I have learned to look at the feet in a new perspective from
reading this book. I especially was thrilled with his chapter on IR. I am hoping John
Stewart will host some clinics in the near future.
